A Place for Setting Down Roots

With its vibrant downtowns, affordable childcare, walkable neighborhoods and a variety of parks and museums, Upstate South Carolina is a place where all ages are welcomed to grow, explore and play.

Working families can rest easy knowing that South Carolina ranks as the sixth most-affordable state for childcare for an infant. About 8.7 percent of the median income of a two-parent family is spent for full-time care for an infant in South Carolina vs. 11.9 percent in North Carolina.

When weekends aren’t spent exploring the outdoors, families can enjoy other hands-on learning adventures including the Children’s Museum of Upstate, with locations in Greenville and Spartanburg, and the Greenville Zoo. An added bonus; they won’t break the bank either. Daily admission for an adult is $10 and under for both. Other attractions include interactive activities like Escape Artist and DEFY Greenville, arts-based learning like Creating Artists for Tomorrow and South Carolina Children’s Theatre, and day trips to outdoor adventures like Sliding Rock, A.K.A. “Nature’s Waterslide. In addition, Upstate SC has a variety of great recreation options for kids—from hockey to soccer to lacrosse—and venues for team sports like Easley’s JB “Red” Owens Sports Complex, which hosts Fall League Youth Baseball at its eight ball fields.

All that is to say that, no matter your age, Upstate South Carolina has the resources and support you need to grow your family.
